— WHAT IT IS
Comfortable, Careful
Extraction
Sometimes a tooth simply needs to come out — severe decay beyond repair, a cracked root, advanced gum disease, or impacted wisdom teeth. When that is the case, we make the experience as comfortable as possible.
Dr. Patel handles routine extractions in-office. For impacted wisdom teeth or complex cases requiring sedation, we partner with a trusted oral surgeon. Either way, we coordinate everything — you do not navigate it alone.
Most patients are pleasantly surprised by how easy and pain-free modern extractions are. Recovery is usually a few days of taking it easy.

— WHY IT MATTERS
When Extraction is Necessary

Severe Decay
When a cavity is so deep that the tooth cannot be saved with a root canal.

Trauma
A tooth fractured below the gumline often cannot be repaired.

Gum Disease
Advanced periodontal disease can loosen teeth beyond saving.

Crowding
Sometimes teeth must be removed to make room — usually before orthodontic treatment.

Wisdom Teeth
Impacted or partially erupted wisdom teeth often need removal to prevent issues.

Infection
An untreatable infection in a tooth may require extraction to protect overall health.
— THE PROCESS
What to Expect
1
Consultation
X-rays and exam to confirm extraction is needed and plan the approach.
2
Anesthesia
Local anesthesia (or sedation if needed) so you feel no pain during the procedure.
3
Extraction
Gentle removal — usually quick. Surgical extractions take longer but use the same comfort measures.
4
Aftercare
We provide detailed care instructions and follow-up — you're never on your own after.

Healing After Extraction
Recovery from a simple extraction is usually quick and comfortable. Here is what to expect over the first week:
-
Day 1–2: Some discomfort, manageable with OTC pain meds. Bleeding stops within a few hours.
-
Day 3–5: Most discomfort fades. Stick to soft foods.
-
Day 5–7: Resume normal eating gradually. Healing well underway.
-
Week 2: Most patients fully back to normal.
-
We provide written instructions and check in with you afterward.

Extraction FAQ
No — local anesthesia makes the procedure painless. You feel pressure, not pain. Some soreness for a few days after is normal.
Most patients feel mostly normal within 3–5 days. Full bone healing takes weeks, but daily life resumes quickly.
Stick to soft foods for the first 24–48 hours. Avoid drinking through a straw for 24 hours (the suction can dislodge the healing clot).
Most wisdom tooth extractions require an oral surgeon, especially if impacted. We coordinate the referral and handle pre/post-op care.
If you are missing a non-wisdom tooth, we will discuss replacement options — usually an implant or bridge. Best to plan replacement before extraction when possible.
Most simple extractions are done with local anesthesia only. Sedation is available if you prefer or if the case is complex.
